It wasn’t that long ago; I was doing what so many coaches do on Substack. I would find notes boost threads in the notes and add my link - follow/subscriber and sometimes a few people followed back. But most of the time it felt random. The growth was inconsistent, and honestly, many of the new subscribers never really engaged.
Looking back at my stats, something became clear. That approach often confuses the algorithm. You end up with people who are following you only because they want you to follow them back. They are not your people. They are not the people who actually need what you offer.
Then I decided to get more intentional.
What started happening once I made that shift is that the subscriber line on the chart began climbing more steadily. It was not some overnight miracle, but it was meaningful, sustainable growth.
That experience is exactly why I keep experimenting with better ways to support coaches who are building on Substack but not yet monetizing it the way they want.
Two communities, two different kinds of support
This is why I run two spaces on Skool that work together but serve very different purposes.
Our private Client Acquisition for Coaches community is where the real relationship work happens. It is more intimate. We talk through the challenges of turning your message into income, celebrate wins, ask honest questions, and support one another like colleagues who truly get it.
Learn Substack, the Substack Starter Space, is public and built as a helpful resource library. People who are just getting started or feeling stuck can find practical guidance there without pressure. Because it is public, search engines can discover it, and new visitors can explore your work naturally.
I recently added our Daily Notes Boost thread into Learn Substack as well. Post your links to notes and content daily to both communities and watch your followers and subscriber base grow.
Why intentional Notes Boosting changes everything
If you have been adding your links to other creators’ Notes or chat threads hoping for a boost, you already know how unpredictable it feels. Sometimes it works a little. Often it does not. And when it does bring in followers, they are frequently the kind of random audience that never engages with your actual message.
Intentional Notes Boosting is different. Done strategically inside a supportive community, it increases your reach while attracting the right people. It is not about spamming links. It is about consistently sharing value and helping one another get seen by coaches and seekers who are genuinely aligned with what you do.
This matters more than most people realize.
Visibility without the right foundation is pointless
Here is the truth I have learned after years of guiding coaches. You can grow your visibility on Substack. You can get more eyes on your Notes and your articles. But if your foundation is not solid, that visibility does not turn into clients. People land on your publication, read a post or two, and leave because there is no clear path forward. No sense of who you are or how you can truly help them.
A strong foundation comes first. When your Substack is positioned clearly, your content has purpose, and your offers feel like a natural next step, then the visibility you create actually leads somewhere meaningful.
Better to have a smaller, engaged audience that resonates with your work than a large, disengaged list full of people who were never going to be your ideal clients.

Amplify Your Voice • Monetize Your Mission • Get Visible
Hi, I’m Jill Hart, The Coach’s Alchemist. I help spiritual entrepreneurs and coaches amplify their voice, attract aligned clients, and monetize their mission through Substack and podcasting.
If you’ve been creating content but not seeing it turn into conversations, clients, or consistent income, Client Acquisition For Coaches is for you.
It’s where we simplify visibility, build authority, and create a clear path from your content to your offers without chasing algorithms or trying to be everywhere.

I completely agree with everything you said Jill. I became a paid member of your Substack and Skool group because you are not spitting out the garbage other so called gurus are. I like that you slow the pace down for those (like me) who need a little extra time to get my publication right. I love the notes boost because it gave me the time to meet some new and interesting people and build some solid relationships. Thank you for what you do.
Such an amazing read! I want to double down on notes!
